Why the world’s first eco-nappy bags will soon be available in the UK

Eco-napkins have been an unlikely hit with many people sceptical of the eco-friendly packaging, which are made from cotton and polyester but contain no water.

The bags were first introduced in Italy in 2009, but the British government decided in 2015 to phase them out.

Eco-papies can be used in conjunction with conventional disposable nappies and are typically more effective than disposable alternatives.

The Irish Government said it was looking at “options to reduce the environmental impact of our products”.

It said it would publish more details in due course.
