India has announced plans to introduce eco bags as part of the country’s winter season.
The government is aiming to attract eco shoppers by reducing waste in the country by a quarter, the Associated Press reported.
The bags will be made from recycled material, which will be placed in eco-friendly bags to reduce environmental impact, according to the announcement from the ministry of environment and forest.
A total of 11 million eco-bags will be available by March 2019, the report said.
The initiative comes at a time when the country is facing increasing air pollution and the ongoing drought.
Earlier this month, the government banned all outdoor use and outdoor shopping in some areas of the city of Kolkata.
The move came as a response to the ongoing pollution crisis in the city, where many of the residents are reliant on a water source.
The ban is expected to help address the growing number of people suffering from respiratory illnesses and respiratory problems.
